Renowned as a concert and performance venue, the hall is the primary performance space of the Elder Conservatorium of Music, which presents the Lunchtime Concert Series on Friday afternoons, as well as the more formal Evening Concert Series.
The Hall, built in 1900, was completely refurbished in 1978. It has a capacity of 660 seats and is suitable for many different types of events. In 1979 a spectacular organ built by Casavant Freres of Quebec was installed. Crafted in the French Classical tradition, the organ is regarded as one of the finest instruments in the country.
Elder Hall may be hired on a per performance, per day, or per day and evening basis. Instrument hire is also available including two Steinway pianos, percussion, organ and harpsichord. For larger conferences and events, Elder Hall may be hired in conjunction with other rooms, lecture theatres and facilities including the National Wine Centre, located within the University of Adelaide North Terrace campus.
